Yamuna Srinidhi, the director of Nrityasiri Center for Performing Arts is a well-known dancer, choreographer and teacher of Bharatanatyam in India and the US. She has had 18 years of training in various styles of Bharatanatyam and Oddissi under the expert guidance of great components of Indian dance like Padmabhushana Smt. Venkata Lakshmamma, Karnataka Kala Tilaka Muralidhar Rao and Karnataka Kala Thilaka Nandini Eshwar. She holds a Masters degree in dance and is a graded artiste of the Bangalore Doordharshan Kendra (Regional Indian Television). She was conferred the title of “Natya Kovide” by the Prime Minister of India. She is the proud recipient of numerous awards at state, national and international levels. Yamuna has maintained the pristine purity of traditional style with élan and aplomb. She is versatile in her creative artistry and vivacious in her gestures and nobility of expression. As a teacher she has transfused her knowledge of this traditional dance form to masses through innumerable lecture demonstrations, master classes, workshops and seminars, in India and abroad. She emphasizes on the theoretical aspect of the dance form along with the practical. Yamuna has contributed to creating an international awareness of Bharatanatyam, as a classical, yet dynamic, contemporary dance tradition. Her depiction of various mythological sequences and modern day fables has a mystical subtleness filled with absolute devotion, which further enhance the purity of Bharatanatyam. Yamuna has organized & performed in many charity & fund raising events. She is an active participant in the United way fundraiser events. Some of the dance dramas choreographed by Yamuna include Sri Krishna Darshanam, Om Shivaya Namah, Save The Forest, Women liberation and the works of great kannada poets. Currently Yamuna is serving as the President of Houston Kannada Vrinda. For past 8 years she has been enthralling and mesmerizing the Houston Kannada audience by her classy direction, creative choreography & exuberant performances. Some of her most popular Kannada works include – Yatra a colorful dance journey through India, Dance on DVG’s Anthapura Geethegalu, Gokula Nirgama, BMSri’s Karunaallu baa belake, Vachanagalu, Vijayanagara Vaibhava, Dr. Rajkumar Savinenapu, Karnataka Darshana, Jaanapada Sobagu to name a few. Yamuna is dedicated to preserving & promoting fine arts among the Indo-American community & has choreographed many theme-based ballets with an eye on the socio-economic conditions in America and India. She is currently a resident of Sugar Land, Texas. |
